Updates will be posted as soon as they become available.
Timeline of Events:
- December 18, 2024 – Lewis County officials met with Hydrostor for an initial introduction to the proposed project.
- January 30, 2025 – County leaders, Town officials, and Hydrostor representatives met to discuss the project concept.
- February 13, 2025 – County and Town leaders convened to voice concerns, ask questions, and explore potential options.
- February 19, 2025 – County and Town officials met with the Planning and Natural Resources Director from Kern County, California, where a similar facility is in its final planning stages. This provided an opportunity to ask questions, gain insights, and discuss possible next steps based on their experience.
- February 27, 2025– An information session was held at the Croghan Fire Hall to allow members of the community to ask questions and voice concerns. County Manager, Tim Hunt, presented the information that is currently available.
- March 11, 2025 – Tentative meeting scheduled, had to be rescheduled.
- March 27, 2025- Meeting rescheduled for Town and County leaders to meet and ask questions. This meeting is a closed meeting; however, a recording will be available the next day on the County’s YouTube Channel.
Latest Updates
Town of Croghan Updates – Over the course of 6 months, the Town of Croghan has been working to develop zoning regulations to establish clear and comprehensive standards for the permitting, installation, operation, and decommissioning of Compressed Air Energy Storage Systems within the Town. The proposed law, which aims to encourage the development of alternative energy systems while safeguarding the public health, safety, and welfare of the Town residents, was introduced at the Town of Croghan’s regularly scheduled September 15th Town Board meeting. A public hearing will be held on Wednesday, October 22nd at 6 PM at the Town of Croghan Municipal Offices, located at 9882 State Route 126, Castorland, NY 13620. Copies of the proposed legislation are available online at the townofcroghan.gov and the Office of the Town Clerk.
Town of Watson Updates—A special meeting to discuss the proposed supplemental zoning regulations relative to Compressed Air Energy Storage Systems will be held on Thursday, September 25th at 6:00 PM. A copy of the proposed regulations can be viewed at the Town of Watson Municipal Office during regular business hours. A subsequent public hearing will be scheduled prior to taking action on the proposed law. Please check back on the Town of Watson website for updates.
