The mission of the Recreation, Forestry and Parks department is to manage the County Reforestation parcels for a sustainable future while providing recreational and community access.

We work with the local ATV clubs to manage, promote, and maintain the OHV trails throughout the county. We strive to work with the community, local municipalities, and other counties to promote and attain access to the OHV Trail System.

In addition, aid is provided to the local snowmobile clubs with administration of the NYS OPRHP Snowmobile Grant.

Please note that the following trails have closed for the 2026 season:

Bald Mountain- Area J
Great Lots- Area F
Grower- Area G

All other trails will close the Tuesday after Columbus Day Weekend, October 13, 2026.

Lewis County OHV Permits

Purchase Trail Permits, Club Memberships, and 3 Day Passes

Local Permit Sellers

The annual Lewis County OHV Permit is $70. Club memberships can be purchased within your trail permit application. (Insurance cards showing the expiration date and VIN # must be uploaded).

A coupon code for a map will be included with your purchase. Coupons can be redeemed at any of the trail permit seller or map pickup locations.

The 3-day pass (three consecutive days) is $40 per OHV.
