Solid Waste Reminds Residents to Remove Batteries Before Disposal
Posted Tuesday September 1st, 2026
LOWVILLE, NY– Lewis County Solid Waste would like to remind residents that batteries must be removed from items before they are disposed of at the Solid Waste Station.
The station has a designated area for proper battery disposal. If you are unsure where an item or battery should be placed, please stop in the office and ask a staff member before disposing of it.
This reminder comes after the Lewis County Solid Waste Station experienced four battery-related fires in the past 30 days. Batteries can pose a serious fire risk when they are placed in the general waste stream or disposed of incorrectly.
We appreciate everyone’s cooperation in helping keep our employees, customers, and facility safe. When in doubt, please ask before you dispose.
For additional information, please contact the Lewis County Solid Waste Department at 315-376-5101.
