Nutrition Program Information

Dining Sites

To be eligible to attend one of our community dining sites, you must be age 60 or older (spouses are welcome regardless of age.)  The suggested contribution for each participant (age 60 or older) is $4.00; guests under 60 must pay the full meal price of $10.95.
Lunches are served Monday- Thursday at all community dining sites. Meals are served at 11:45 a.m. with the exception of the Lyons Falls dining site which serves at 11:30 a.m.
Our community dining sites are located throughout Lewis County, which includes Copenhagen, Croghan, Harrisville, Lowville & Lyons Falls (scroll down further for exact locations).

Home Delivered Meals

All home delivered meals are prepared locally and delivered to the home by a caring community member who also checks in on the meal recipient to ensure they are doing well that day.  The meals are planned by a Registered Dietician and are healthy, nutritious & balanced.  Meals are delivered Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday with a frozen meal available for Tuesday and Friday.
In order to receive these meals, an OFA Case Manager visits the home for an informal home evaluation to determine eligibility.  Questions asked include:  age, health problems, medications used, and special diet information.
To be eligible for home delivered meals, you must be:  Age 60 or older; in need of support with meal preparation due to health, limitation in physical abilities, inability to shop or cook for oneself; without support from family, friends or neighbors to prepare meals; or caregiving for another in the home who is eligible.

Nutrition Education & Counseling

A Registered Dietician is available to provide free nutrition information and counseling. This service is especially recommended for anyone who is on a special diet or with specific dietary problems. Counseling can be conducted over the phone, at a community dining site, or at an individual’s home.

Curbside Pickup

Take your lunch to go from the Lowville, Lyons Falls, and Harrisville sites.  Take out meals are available Monday – Thursdays from 11:30 am – 12:00 pm.  To begin curbside pickup, a one-time OFA registration form must be completed.  Reservations must be made by 2:00 pm the day before; Friday meal reservations must be made by 2:00 pm the Tuesday before.

Contributions

Both, the DINING SITE and HOME DELIVERED MEAL programs are funded by Federal, State, and Local governments.  Voluntary contributions also play a big role to help cover the costs of these meals and have become more crucial in recent years given changes in funding. Our suggested contribution for any participant 60 years of age or older is $4.00 per meal.  With the actual cost of each meal at $10.95, any guest attending a dining site under the age of 60 must pay the full meal price.  To help contribute for these meals, cash, checks or SNAP benefits are accepted.
